What a certificate of analysis shows

A certificate of analysis records analytical results for an identified sample or lot. It is distinct from a catalogue specification.

An analytical record

A certificate of analysis, often abbreviated COA, is a document reporting analytical results for an identified sample or lot. A lot identifier connects the report to the material described in it. The laboratory name and test date identify who reported the work and when the testing took place.

Methods and results

The method describes how an analytical question was examined. Identity and purity are different questions, so a report may contain separate methods and result fields. A method name alone is not a result. Units, reported values, and any stated limitations belong with the corresponding method.

Specification and evidence

A specification describes the material being listed. A certificate records the analytical findings reported for the identified sample or lot. A molecular formula or calculated mass on a catalogue page does not establish a measured result. A report for one lot does not establish the results for another lot.

Publication status

AlphaGenix lists documentation status separately from its reference specifications. Where no certificate is published, the status remains unpublished. A product illustration, catalogue reference, or completed specification is not a substitute for a laboratory report.
